My dad sent me this video this morning, I was a little skeptical giving it was through CNN Money, but check it out, it's real quick and involves some glorious Cobra-ness.

I found the second-to-last sentence in the video ("...In order to get around those pesky safety regs, Shelby sells you the engine and the body separately.") VERY INTERESTING. It can't be that easy to skate around new car safety certifications, can it? Could an American who likes weird cars buy, say, a Citroen C6 with no engine and a Citroen C6 engine separately?

About as close to perfection on 4 wheels as has ever been achieved.

that's a dangerous game.

It helps that these are most likely registered with new VINs as Kit Cars. The supposed "C6" would already have a foreign VIN on it and probably wouldn't be registerable as a kit car.

To get just a kit car of these to Canada, no power train, certain suspension pieces, and the fuel tank straps... My dads was registered as a 1965 even though we built it in 05, that's how the lack of air bags and super loud side pipes are "legal" and no need for catalytic converters.

Must say with all these jacked up pickup trucks having bumpers at head level is a bit scary... But some guys have rolled them and with double roll bars, tube frame chassis and 5 point harnesses, power steering (choice) and modern brakes and suspension I bet it's a little safer than the real ones.

gotcha.

I knew a guy who bought a ridiculous jacked up blazer and bought it because the guy "promised" it was street legal.

He drove it home, got pulled over the next day for excessive bumper height, cop pulled out a ruler and everything.

He wasn't even a mile from his house.

This was not the first, or the last time I called him an idiot.

My brother came to the realization that between his kids, work and life he would never have the time to build one so he opted to purchase one. He picked up a FF Mark3 for around $28k with a tricked out 351 making around 400hp. Normally I'm all for a good hooning but that car is more or less trying to kill you at all times. It's stupid fast and very twitchy. Glad I get to drive it every now and then but man it's really hard to describe what a handful this car is. A lot of fast cars will make you feel confident and inflate your sense of skill. Nope, not this car. This car is always ready to let you know that you don't have the skill to handle what it's capable of.

Hahahaha, that sounds like a perfect description of this car.

I'm often amazed at how civilized my 68 Montego is to drive. Even without power brakes (And having 4 drums). It's really quite easy to drive.
